Quickie Beach Trip!

Last weekend Matt had Sunday and Monday off of work, so we hopped in the car to Topsail Beach for a quick two day trip. We have been wanting to go back down for weeks now that the weather has been nice, and are so blessed to be able to stay at Granddaddy and Nana B's beach house.

On Sunday, the weather was a little windy and rainy, so we started with some pancakes at the Beach Shop & Grill where Kenna discovered a deep love for maple syrup.
Mommy and this big independent girl got a few essentials at the little grocery store (which by the way is the same store my grandmother used to take me to when we came here when I was a little girl!)
Then in the afternoon it was nice enough to take a long walk on the beach all the way down to the pier. We had brought our "new" jogging stroller (a neighbor was giving it away for free after it didn't sell at a yardsale, and we snagged it!) so Kenna was able to enjoy the walk with us. She thought it was a blast to ride through the water and have it splash up on her (Pontouf thought it was pretty great too!)
Kenna was not quite so sure about walking on the sand. It was really windy, so that made it a little harder- but she still seemed to like exploring the sand and sea shells. We took this little video of her, you can hear how windy it was!

Even though she rode in the stroller the majority of the time, I think our walk wore her out. We came back to the house and she slept on the couch in a fort of pillows for a good long time.
On Monday we woke up to beautiful sunshine, so we put on bathing suits, played out in the sand, put our toes in the cold water, and unfortunately didn't take any pictures.

We always love the beach, and short trips are never long enough! We can't wait to go back soon!

Topsail Beach Trip

A few weeks after that, Matt and I went to Topsail beach for a few days for our "official" summer vacation! Our first day included a trip to the grocery store where Kenna tried out the seat of the shopping cart for the first time:
The first evening we went out on the beach together was windy and miserable... Kenna would get sand in her eyes and then try to rub them. We only lasted a few minutes before having to go back in. On day two, it rained, so we drove to the Aquarium in Fort Fisher and had a great time! Kenna camped out in the peanut shell and ate lunch, watched the fish swim, and took a nap all while snuggled next to me. Matt had fun taking lots of pictures of the albino alligator, jelly fish, seahorses, and all the other super colorful and photogenic fish. (the rest of the pictures are here)
I don't know if it was more fun to watch all the fish or all the people (Kenna loves to people-watch)! Apparently the aquarium is a popular place on rainy, muggy days at the beach. It was a fun little drive together- we had iced coffees on the way there and an ice cream cone on the way home. When we got home late that afternoon, it was perfect weather for a not-so-hot walk on the beach, and we took Pontouf out with us.
The next day the rain had packed the sand down and it was a gorgeous, breezy day instead of windy- the perfect day for Kenna! She did much better in that kind of weather. Matt and I sat next to her on a bodyboard down near the shore. She had a blast with her little toy cups, scooping up the water and smacking them together. She loved it when the waves came up around her, and we got to spend a great afternoon together all out on the beach! That evening, we went out for a seafood dinner (of course!). Kenna was babbling really loudly- it doesn't sound like a big deal here, but the restaurant was fairly small and quiet-ish and people kept looking over and laughing at her. We missed the really loud part, but here is a cute little video of her:

After dinner we explored a little beach arcade that had putt-putt, games, ice cream, and lots of twinkly lights hanging from the ceiling! Matt and I rocked the basketball game and skee ball and then gave our tickets away to another family there with little kids.
Kenna had her first real taste of ice cream, and (surprise, surprise) she loved it! She was so entertaining, we took some videos and photos.

We also spent some time napping, watching movies, and just sitting and listening to the waves. It was such a relaxing and good time!
Beautiful beach!

Time With Cousins!

On June 7th, 2009 our new sweet baby neice was born! Welcome to the world, Emerson Grace! Her proud Momma, Daddy, and big brother are all so happy that she's here!

I am so impressed with Alisa's birth story. Determined to experience every minute of this little one's arrival, especially since it was her second one and she had a better idea of what to expect, she had Emerson completely without any intervention or pain medication! What an accomplishment!
Baby Emm made her arrival just after midnight on the 7th! (Which made her Aunt happy, since Uncle Matt's birthday is on March 7th, and that will help me remember the right date!) She came home to a warm welcome from her big brother Evan... it's hard to believe that my own big brother now has TWO kiddos! We went to visit at the hospital, and I had to sneak Kenna up to see her... I couldn't stand to sit in the waiting room waiting for Matt to come back down! It will be so fun for Kenna to have another girl cousin, and just six months apart in age.

Kenna meeting her new cousin:
The four red-heads of the family!

This weekend, we got the opportunity to go to Matt's parents' beach house overnight with his whole family! It was a short trip, but a really fun time with all three cousins and two grand-dogs together! Nana B and Grandaddy stayed in to enjoy the kids so that we could have more time on the beach.
Kenna, 6 months, and Beckley, 8 months
Beckley is a busy boy on the move! Growing SO fast!
Ansley and Kenna... sweet girls!
Nana's girl is about to turn 5 this summer! That's hard for me to believe, especially since she was born just a few months before we got married... that means we're coming up on our 5th anniversary! Amazing!Granddaddy loves his silly girls!
Beckley enjoying a chocolate popsicle with his Mommy and Daddy... perfect beach food!
Even the grand-dogs, Bailey and Pontouf, had a great time! They know where to sit for a good chance of food scraps coming their way (it was some hotdog bun in this picture)!

The Broglis' house is RIGHT across the street from the beach. The weather was absolutely gorgeous until a late afternoon thunderstorm, and the ocean was chilly but nice and not too cold to swim! We took Kenna out on the beach to put her toes in the sand. She wasn't a huge fan of the water, but it was a little on the cold side for her. Maybe later in the summer when it is like bath water she will enjoy it more.
Ready for the beach!
