Pool Days.

Another one of the great things about having Matt home in the mornings is that it works out perfectly to spend the more cool(ish) morning hours at the pool together! I've braved taking both kids by myself in the evenings a bit, but it is much easier (and way more fun) with Daddy there with us.
Kenna loves the "big pool" (as opposed to the little one on our porch) and asks almost daily for us to go. Anytime she is quiet in her room for even a minute, I know the likelihood is high that she's stripping down and putting her "shwim soob" on to go. It's a quick and fun walk through our neighborhood to get to the pool, and Kenna thinks she is big stuff when she gets to pick out some flip flops from our shoe basket and head out in her bathing suit!
Our little movie star. Looking like such a teenager already!
I've been so proud of her reaction to the water this year. As a former YMCA swim instructor, my first instinct is to push her to try hard and not be scared of the water. Matt and I are both strong swimmers, and I can't even remember a time when I didn't know how to swim, and I want that for the kids too. What I'm realizing though, is that sometimes kiddos act a little more scared and hesitant with their Momma than they would with anyone else just because it's Momma. But Kenna will walk all the way to the bottom of the stairs into the 3 feet of water holding our hands, and has started jumping from the side into the water (with us catching her) and will put her face in to blow bubbles- great first steps to swimming!
Finn has done great in the water too! He loves to stick his feet in and sway back and forth in the water. When I take both kids by myself, he is happy to sit chillin' in the stroller, watching his big sister's antics. It's much better when Matt is there, and we all get in the water!
Kenna truly loves to be with her baby brother, and when Finn was in the little floatie she begged and begged for us to let her sit with him... so it became a little family flotilla. I love this kind of float because it sits the baby down in the water in a little mesh sling so they get the feeling of being weightless in the water vs. bobbing around up on top of the water.

4th of July Weekend

I totally missed out on writing about our 4th of July weekend, so here's a quickie in pictures!

Lunch after church (kids in the best red, white & blue outfits we could pull together!):
Sparklers and fireworks (and staying up late!) on the lawn of a nearby elementary school:
Our friends Dan & Sarah and their one year old little girl Stella came over for pizza and a swim in the pool:
And what summer celebration would be complete without watermelon? Kenna is obviously a fan (she helped herself to this piece as we were saying goodbye to Dan, Sarah & Stella at the front door!)
Notice too, the jammies soaked watermelon juice and Sarah couldn't leave yet because Kenna was wearing her shoes!
