Baby Look-alikes.

As I uploaded photos today I had to laugh to see more of my deja vu photos that I love so much! I'm sure that with three kids fairly close in age we're bound to have several photos in which they look just alike, and I think it's fun to document them together.

Here's a fun game of big brother/little brother:

And a little episode of name... that... baby:
(KennaFinn, Gunnar)

It's amazing how all three can look so much alike and yet so different, each their own little selves! I love it. Here's another just for fun:

A Christmas Flashback.

I started making a photo album this year for us of all the Christmas cards we've sent over the years. I thought it would be fun for our kids (and us!) to flip through it each year and see how much they've grown up and where we were living change. In putting the cards in, I realized we haven't been sending out cards for very long! So for some pages, especially the early years, I just put in a family picture of us. Here are the Broglis through the Christmas years!

2010
Living in Wake Forest, Kenna at 2 years old, and expecting baby brother!

2009
Moved back to Wake Forest, Kenna was 13 months old.

2008
We visited home from Asheboro, NC with 4 week old Kenna!

2007
Hard to get a good smile this year- Mom died just 10 days after Christmas. This is the photo we sent out (from right before Mom got sick), but the second one is really more how we felt at the time.

2006
The first year Pontouf joined our family pictures!

2005
We had just celebrated our 1st anniversary- newlywed days!

2004
This was in the pre-digital-camera days for us, so I really had to search for this picture- I think this was actually closer to Thanksgiving. Our first married Christmas!

Shutterfly for Christmas!

We use Shutterfly so much, I was surprised when I did a search on our blog I couldn't find a single post about it! What I love them best for is their quickie photo books. I absolutely love the way they turn out, how quick they are to put together (as long as you have a little uninterrupted time), and they offer lots of coupon and promo codes. For example, I've gotten a free photobook from saving up my Pampers points (which accumulate quickly with all the diapers around here) and I've even had a free one and a 50% off one print out from the checkout at Harris Teeter.

Thanks to the ease of Shutterfly, I am caught up with Kenna's baby books up to her first year, including a little flip book of all her "firsts." Kenna loves to sit and look at the books- she loves pictures of herself and her family! I've also used them to make a photo memory book of my mom and several Christmas cards over the years. They also have other holiday cards and some really cute birthday cards that I'd love to use for invitations sometime if I can get my act together in time.
The exciting thing is that this year they are offering a special promotion for people with any kind of blog. I think a card with a family photo (or your kid's photo if it's a birthday card, etc.) is such a sweet way to keep in contact with family, and also to look back at over the years. You could even upload each year's Christmas card into a little book so that the kids can flip back through when they get bigger (I'm currently working on making one of these!). It's also crazy easy, once you've made a photobook, to order more copies of it which make perfect Christmas gifts, especially for grandmas who never tire of grandkid pictures!

For this year, I really like this one because there is space for sort of a mini Christmas letter off to the side:
And this one because you could use so many pictures! (That was an especially useful feature the year Kenna was born in November, so we combined her birth announcement with our Christmas card- LOTS of photos we wanted to use!)
So if you're a blogger and would like to try out Shutterfly's products for free (and get a headstart on your Christmas cards for free!) check out this promotion, it's easy as pie. We love Shutterfly!

Picture Time.

I thought I'd write this out for posterity since it was one of my first frustrating experiences with our 2 year old acting like a 2 year old in public. This might be a story that only a mom would care anything about, but I thought it was kind of funny.

I took Kenna to JC Penney to get her "18 month" pictures... when she was 21 months old. I only take her for professional pictures once every 6 months or so, and take her to JC Penney since they have such great coupons that make them really cheap! Frivolous, I know, but these kiddos grow so fast! Kenna had been getting over a cold, so I probably should have known better than to take her at that time, but I didn't want her to get any closer to 2 than she already was. So I picked out 2 dresses I loved, and even splurged $2.50 on a new pack of hairbows since her newborn ones look too tiny for her head.

In the past, Kenna has LOVED getting pictures taken. She flirted with the camera people, played with the cute little props, and we end up with super cute memories of her little personality. Well... this time started out ok. I tried to time it in the morning around nap time when she would be the in the happiest mood. It was a Saturday, super busy at the mall, and she had fun watching all the other little kids who were there to have their pictures taken.

The pictures kind of tell the story for me:
This is fun, right? Then I suggested the rocking chair since she loves hers at home. Good idea, at first.
Then she realized there were other props we were not letting her have... enter meltdown #1. Suddenly she wanted to do anything in the room except take a picture. She saw the props closet. She saw a broom and wanted to sweep. She even tried to take the camera away.
We decided to regroup for a minute- I changed her dress and they changed the background. We tried to get Kenna to sit on this super cute little box (very fall-like) and we let her pull out one or two new props of her choice.
Almost a good idea, except now we have a tiny bit of strange hairiness in the photo (a little stuffed lion). We tried the box again, and she LOST it. Meltdown #2. I had tried everything at this point. I had taken her right outside the room for a little talk about attitudes. I was having to wipe her nose every 10 seconds from all the crying and that only made her madder. I had bribed her with fruit snacks. I was sitting right next to her and she wanted me to hold her. The poor photographer was practically rolling around on the floor, trying every trick in her book.

Finally I said, "oh just take a crying one. Maybe it will be cute."
Cute, and kind-of funny. At least we have the memory right? And I'm mostly distracted by the cuteness of the bare feets anyway.

I forget what happened next (I was exhausted at this point) but she took one last picture and it was ADORABLE. Exactly what I wanted:
And when I saw it on the computer screen to order the prints? Giant snot bubble. Classic!

I guess that's what I get for torturing my kid for 30 minutes in the name of "memories." I certainly got a memory didn't I? Hard to believe, but if I take her for another picture in 6 more months, we will have a second child in the photo! Maybe she'll be so distracted by her baby that we'll get a good one.

Dreams and Goals

Since Matt last wrote about thankfulness for God blessing him with the opportunity to see our newborn daughter, I wanted to also write about achieving a dream and goal of mine. Today I did something I've wanted to do since I was 16 years old and was given my first "real" camera for my birthday by my grandfather. I took photos of a beautiful infant girl...

...who is finally and actually mine! Matt and I have taken so many photos of beautiful kiddos over the years, and now we have our own. These pictures, especially of her little toes, are the kind of pictures I've seen in my mind and then finally get to materialize in real life. Here is my little beauty at 2 weeks and a day old:
And somehow magically in the hospital, despite the bad hair, no makeup, no sleep, and um, just having had a baby... Uncle Creech managed to capture the shot every mommy wants to treasure:
